Instructions with a diagram for connecting fog lights: how to properly install and connect fog lights through a relay with your own hands

Let's say you have installed fog lights and you need to deal with the connection. I hope we will help in this, there is nothing difficult in this situation.

First of all, you need:

  • minimal knowledge of electrical engineering (find + 12V and mass);
  • tool - knife, nippers, pliers, terminal block;
  • consumables: blue iso-tape, heat shrinkage of a suitable diameter, plastic clamps, automobile corrugation, bulk and connecting terminals.

Pick up the appropriate base materials:

  • 2-core wire 1.5 mm2 - approx. 6m;
  • switch-on relay with connector (ordinary light relay with VAZ 2108) -1 pc;
  • external fuse 30A -1 pc;
  • power button (optional by design, preferably backlit);
  • connectors for tumankas (if not) -2 pcs.

Now that everything is ready, we collect such a circuit, Fig. 1.

The advantages of functional lighting equipment

Fog lights help relieve some of the strain on the driver's eyes during a forced trip in difficult weather conditions. With their help, it is possible to achieve better illumination of the roadway. The greatest value of headlights lies in the precise supply of light, which determines the illumination of the road.

Precisely adjustable devices illuminate up to 10 meters of space in front of the vehicle, which is enough for safe driving in difficult weather conditions. Of course, for this you need to adhere to a certain speed limit. The headlights are adjusted during the installation process. The quality of illumination of the roadway depends entirely on the setting of the angle of incidence of the luminous flux.

Features of installing fog lights

Before buying fog lights, the car owner should decide on the place of their installation on the car. Many foreign cars have special niches in the front bumper for the installation of additional optics. Accordingly, the motorist needs to select suitable fog lights for these shapes and sizes.

Some SUV fans mount additional lights on the same level as the standard optics or on the roof of the car. In this case, PTFs of any size and shape are suitable. It is important that the kit includes the correct brackets to securely attach them.

In addition to the fog lights themselves in a store or on the market, you need to purchase some additional materials for their installation:

  • electric wires,
  • terminals for connecting wires,
  • a button or handle for turning on the "fog lamp",
  • fuse for 20-30 A,
  • four-pin relay.

Preparing to install PTF on a car

Installing fog lights with your own hands is possible with minimal knowledge of physics and the ability to hold a screwdriver and wrenches in your hands. In this case, it is best to work in a garage equipped with an inspection pit. The motorist must be patient, and carry out the work without haste, precisely following the technological installation instructions. Before starting work, it is better to familiarize yourself with the manufacturer's recommendations, find an electrical diagram for your car.

If the car owner has “hands growing out of the wrong place,” then it is better to entrust this work to a car electrician. This will avoid additional complications and breakdowns.

Fog lamp connection diagram

Fog lights can be connected in a car in different ways, the principle of operation will be approximately the same. The most popular is the connection diagram for fog lamps through a relay (see the video above). In this case, you need to pay attention to the PTF marking, if the installation side is indicated on them (left or right), then it is important not to confuse them in places.

Almost all foreign cars are electrically prepared for the installation of fog lights. To verify this, you need to look into the fuse box. If it has free relay terminals with the inscription "fog lamp relay", then the preparation is done by the manufacturer. And under the bumper, most likely, you can find wires with terminals for connecting the PTF. The work of installing fog lights in such a car will be much easier.

Current requirements for the installation of additional optics

The rules for installing fog lights are regulated by the current traffic rules. Also, in this case, GOST 8769-75 must be observed ... Otherwise, you can get problems with the traffic police.

Before installation, you should familiarize yourself with the installation standards:

  • the greatest deviation from the side plane of the machine to the edge of the headlight should not exceed 0.4 m;
  • from the bottom of the installed device to the road surface, a gap of at least 25 cm must remain;
  • must provide viewing angles at which the optics will not be obstructed: in the vertical plane + 15–10 degrees, in the horizontal plane + 45–10 degrees.

The inclusion of fog lights should be provided simultaneously with the launch of the side lights.

In the design of modern cars, most manufacturers provide for the installation of such additional lighting. Special modules in the front of the car are allocated for it. It will be possible to identify such areas by special plugs installed in the area of the front bumper. It is enough to remove each of the plugs to start the installation of lighting devices.

If the manufacturing company has not planned a place for PTF in the design of the car, then each motorist can independently choose a place for them. In this case, you will need to adhere to the established norms and rules of installation. This is due not only to compliance with the rule of law, which is important, but also to ensure high efficiency of the new headlights.

After you can fully connect the foglights through the relay, it will be important to adjust them with fixation in the established positions. In this case, you will need to achieve the correct angles of incidence of the luminous flux.

How to choose the right fog lights

However, fog lights are not always used only for such conditions. They can be perfectly applied to illuminate those areas that are not illuminated by standard optics. This could be the right edge of the curb, the distance directly in front of the hood of the vehicle. Naturally, this does not affect the range of light in any way, but fog lights will be useful to get a complete picture of the condition of the road surface.

The power of the fog lamps is the tenth thing. That is why, if possible, it is better to use low-power light sources and here, like nowhere else, LED lamps look best. They can also be used as daytime running lights, the main thing is strict compliance with traffic rules, otherwise, instead of benefit, they will bring some problems.

These norms are clearly described in the Rules, so we will not dwell on them. Therefore, in favor of fog lights, the following arguments can be counted:

  • improved visibility in severe weather conditions - rain, fog, snowfall;
  • improved viewing angles in normal night conditions;
  • fog lights can be used as daytime running lights;
  • the dimensions of the car in difficult conditions are better visible even from afar;
  • lens foglights will accurately focus the light beam on unlit sections of the track.

In a word, if we decided to install fog lights of any type, not counting xenon ones, they need to be connected according to a completely different scheme, it remains to consider the circuit and, before connecting the fog lights through a relay, select the necessary components.

How to install and connect with your own hands?

Installing fog lights on your own begins with the development of a wiring diagram. A properly designed circuit avoids unnecessary wires and ensures reliable operation of the electrical circuit. Installation work is recommended in a garage, although many owners install outdoors.

Installing PTF in the front bumper and tuning

There are three installation methods:

  • into regular openings;
  • on an external bracket;
  • in a blank bumper, not intended for the installation of headlights.

Customization is done using the homemade template below. The template is installed perpendicularly at a distance of 5 m from the headlights of the vehicle. Adjustment is made until the upper edge of the light spot coincides. The coincidence line is located 100 mm below the height of the center of the lamps.

Approximate view of the template for customization

Adjusting the fog lights provides increased driver visibility and reduces the risk of oncoming traffic being dazzled by the light.

Installing PTF in a blind bumper

The most difficult and time-consuming option is to install fog lights in a blank bumper (i.e., one that does not have factory holes for this):

  1. Dismantle the bumper from the vehicle in accordance with the instructions for repair and operation.
  2. Determine the optimal installation location for the headlights in terms of body shape and compliance with regulations.
  3. Make a hole for the headlights. The best way is to drill holes around the perimeter and sawing the gaps with a file. The hole has to be adjusted to ensure proper fit between the body and the decorative frame. Small fragments of the bumper are carefully cut off with a construction or clerical knife.
  4. Drill holes for the fog lamp housing, which is secured with suitable bolts.
  5. Install the headlamp in the housing and fit the protective strip. She clings to the plastic bumper.
  6. You can adjust the headlamp using the special key included in the kit.

Mounting option for foglights on a steel bracket:

  1. Mark the attachment points of the bracket to the bumper in accordance with the requirements for the installation of fog lights. As a rule, additional headlights are installed on the bracket.
  2. Screw the bracket to the bumper with self-tapping screws or bolts.
  3. Install the fog lights on the attachment points, connect the wiring.

Installation of PTF in standard openings

In order to put the headlights in a bumper with standard plugs, you must:

  1. Raise the front of the vehicle by padding a wooden block with a height of 150-200 mm under the wheels. For more convenience, you can install the car on a lift.
  2. Remove the protective guards covering the lower section of the bumper.
  3. Unscrew the clips of the standard bumper plugs.
  4. Insert the fog lamp into the guides and fix it with standard screws. When using non-original headlights, there may be a discrepancy between the dimensions and mounting points. In this case, you have to fit the parts to each other. Below is a photo gallery of the installation of Chinese fog lights in the bumper of the Hyundai Elantra HD.

Broach wiring

When broaching and installing wiring, you must follow the safety rules:

  • disconnect the battery;
  • the cross-section of the wire must correspond to the conducted current;
  • the joints must have reliable contact;
  • only wires of the same material can be connected (to reduce electrochemical corrosion);
  • it is advisable to spill twists with solder;
  • the joints of the wires are insulated with a heat shrink tube or electrical tape;
  • Avoid placing wiring connections in locations subject to flooding;
  • to protect against bending and chafing, it is recommended to protect them with a split corrugated tube;
  • wires are laid parallel to standard bundles and fixed to them with plastic ties;
  • the power supply circuit of the fog lamps is necessarily protected by an individual fuse;
  • when laying the wire, check that there are no hot or moving elements in the path, as well as sharp edges.

Failure to comply with the rules of safe electrical wiring leads to overheating of the circuits and a fire that can destroy the vehicle.

Before starting installation, it is recommended to assemble the future electrical circuit and test the work. This event allows you to find and eliminate errors made during development.

Testing wiring and headlights

Approximate wiring sequence:

  1. Carry out preliminary wiring to the fog lamp connectors.
  2. Pass the wires inside the bumper through the corrugated tube.
  3. Withdraw the negative leads from the fog lights and connect to the body. It is advisable to use the standard weight bolts available on the front side members.
  4. Remove the front wheel and wheel arch liner (alternately).
  5. Determine the location of the relay. The relay must be used without fail, since direct switching of the lamps with a switch will lead to rapid burnout of the contacts. The relay can be placed in a free space in a standard mounting block or anywhere on the instrument panel.
  6. Since the fog lights must work in conjunction with the side lights, the connection is made from the size block. Below are photos of the process of connecting the wiring on the passenger car Volkswagen Polo Sedan.

Installation of the PTF switch

The most common method of turning on fog lights is a button that is installed in a regular place or at any other point in the driver's reach. Regular places for buttons are closed with removable plugs, occasionally they are covered by the material of the instrument panel. In this case, you need to cut a hole corresponding to the dimensions of the button body.

A separate item is to consider the installation of a steering column switch block equipped with a rotary fog lamp switch. To do the job, you may need a special tool - Torx screwdrivers and a special wrench for the center bolt of the steering wheel.

Connect the steering column switch in the following steps:

  1. Unfasten the two halves of the steering column trim cover.
  2. Separate the parts, overcoming the resistance of the clips. Care must be taken when disassembling so as not to break the plastic clips.
  3. Next, you need to remove the steering column switch, which can be removed without removing the steering wheel or with removal. In the first case, it is enough to bend the spring clip, remove the lever and disconnect the connector. After that, another switch is put in and the removed parts are installed in place. In the second case, dismantling of the steering wheel and airbag (if any) is required. The way to remove the pillow is different for each model. Hold the part to be removed as it may slide off the mountings and break the cable harness.
  4. After removing the pillow, it is required to unscrew the central bolt that secures the steering wheel.
  5. Remove the steering wheel, disconnect the plugs from the steering column switch.
  6. Unscrew a few screws securing the switch and remove it from the column.
  7. Install a new unit and reassemble. When installing the steering wheel, make sure that the steering wheel spokes and front wheels are in the correct position. The center bolt must be tightened to the recommended torque.
  8. Connect the power supply and check the operation of the switch box.

Old and new switches

On some European cars, the fog lights are switched using a rotary switch located on the instrument panel. When installing headlights on such a car, it is required to bring the wires from the lamps to the plug and install a light switch with a fog control function.

Instructions for installing foglights on a car through a relay

  • It is necessary to remove the main panel, under which the lamps from the illumination of the oven regulator are located. The bulbs can be set aside, they will not be needed further.
  • Now you need to find the two-pin connector. It is located at the end of the backlight wire. You will need to run your hand over it in order to find the necessary part.
  • We connect the first wire from the relay to the two-pin connector, and the second we attach to the PTF power button.
  • To establish a 12-volt network in the system from dimensions and 84 contacts, you will need to lead a wire to the relay. The relay can be removed to any place convenient for the driver - behind or under the dashboard, under the body trim, in the fuse box, etc.

If you connected the radio yourself, there should be no problems. The connection principle, although not identical, is similar.

  • Now you will need to run pin 87 to the battery under the pedals or along the wiring to the engine compartment.

It is recommended to install a fuse at this stage. It is best to place the cell as close to the battery as possible.

  • We extend the contact number 86 to ground to the body.
  • Fog lights have two wires - minus and plus. The latter ("positive") will need to be connected together and sent to the battery.
  • Then you need to send them to the relay and connect to the connector at number 30.
  • "Minus" is directed to the body.
  • It is necessary to wrap all bare wires with electrical tape and check the reliability of the connections.

If the foglights do not work, check that the relay connectors are connected correctly. You will hear clicks when installed correctly.

Here we examined the option of connecting fog lamps powered by the interior heater. You can also make a connection from the rear window heating block. To do this, you will need to use the wires from the rear window heating button for power supply. The connection principle is the same as described above, only using a different power source

In the first version, the foglights will work together with the dimensions, and the "recharge" from the rear window heating button assumes the operation of these headlights from the ignition switch. The second option is better suited for driving in the daytime, since fog lights can be used instead of running lights, not including the dimensions.

Types of optics

Fog lights are classified into several types:

  • regular;
  • universal;
  • lens;
  • laser foglights.

Factory optics are mounted on vehicles with high trim levels and meet all requirements. The inclusion of optics is possible only with active dipped beam or dimensions. To adjust the angle of the beam, a special wing is used, which is located on the body.

Universal lights require self-installation, connection and configuration. For fastening, metal holders are used, which are screwed to the bumper or body reinforcement. When choosing optics, you should only trust well-known manufacturers: these are Hammali, Hella, Osram, PIAA, Wesem, Morimoto headlights. Unknown Chinese products melt with prolonged use and are difficult to customize.

Lensed headlights are rarely installed and are capable of delivering a powerful beam of light that breaks through fog and illuminates both sides of the road. For self-installation, there are kits with fasteners, a button and wires.

Laser variants are mounted on the rear bumper and are used to mark the vehicle in poor visibility conditions.

Before buying optics, you need to decide on the installation site, measure the bumper and write down the approximate dimensions of the product.

Assembly order

  1. The first step is to do and connect the connectors to the foglights, screw the ground wire (brown in the diagram) through the terminal to the body. Bring the positive one (blue in the diagram) to the area of the battery (it will be connected to the relay, terminal 30).
  2. We fix the relay in a suitable place and connect the wires. Red (87) to the battery via a fuse (you can use a relay with a built-in fuse). nominal 30 A. Black (86) to the body through the terminal (it is possible to the minus of the battery). We put the control wire (green) from terminal 85 into the passenger compartment (drilling of the engine shield is allowed). Pairs of terminals 85-86 and 87-30 are interchangeable.
  3. We install the button in any convenient place, we follow some rules when connecting.

We choose the ability to turn on the foglights with our own hands:

  • autonomous (no matter what is turned on, but there is a chance to completely discharge the battery by accidentally forgetting to turn off the tumanki) we connect to the dimensions or constant + ACC.
  • use only when the ignition is on (there is no way to use the backlight, for example, from an alarm), we take a plus from the ignition switch or look for IGN1, or better IGN2 according to the scheme, device or control lamp. That's it, we check the performance.

A Few Tips

  • The power button can be used from the rear fog lights.
  • In the connections, it is better to use not twists and soldering, but connecting terminals with protective heat shrink
  • It is advisable to pack all non-standard wiring in a corrugation, and it is more aesthetically pleasing and safer.

Installation guidelines and hardware requirements

It is necessary to install fog lights in accordance with the current Traffic Regulations. The SDA spelled out points on how to equip a car with foglights. If you cannot figure out how to install fog lights on your own, having a diagram and a clear sequence, we recommend that you contact a competent specialist. So it will be possible to shorten the nerve cells and personal time. The fog lamp connection diagram is contained on the traffic rules pages.

It will be possible to achieve high-quality illumination of the roadway in bad weather conditions with appropriate adjustment of the angle of the light flux.

The light must propagate above the horizontal plane. The headlights should be installed in the lower area of the body to bring the devices closer to the road.

When installing foglights at the bottom of the car, take care of the safety of the headlights, prevention of blows from sticks, stones, which are often on the road. To do this, use special plugs. Take care of your fog lights and keep them clean and your equipment will serve you for years to come.

Installing fog lights with your own hands

In the process of installing fog lights, you will have to carry out several stages:

  • installation of headlights in the bumper,
  • wire pulling,
  • relay and fuse connection,
  • installation of a button or replacement of a knob for switching turns and headlights.

Each car model has its own characteristics, so in advance it is necessary to find out the nuances of connecting the PTF on car forums or from colleagues with similar cars. Work on installing foglights in the car should be started by disconnecting the negative terminal of the battery.

Installing fog lamps in the front bumper

Many motorists at this stage are faced with the problem of removing the bumper. A viewing hole or lift will help to facilitate the task. Here are some simple tips to make it easier to install the PTF in your front bumper:

  1. First you need to prepare a place where the removed bumper can be put.
  2. There is no need to rush and jerk the bumper hard, otherwise the plastic may crack.
  3. When the bumper is removed, it is necessary to carefully cut the holes in the appropriate places for the installation of the fog lights. It is better to do this operation, starting with a small hole, gradually adjusting it to the size of each headlight (this way it will be possible to avoid the formation of cracks through which moisture and dust will penetrate into the PTF in the future).
  4. For some foglights, special decorative plugs are sold, which are selected according to the car model and even the color of the bumper. With these plugs, the process of fitting the holes in the bumper to the fog lights is much easier.
  5. Next, it remains to screw the mounts to the bumper, and then use them to fix the headlights themselves.

When both foglights are installed in place, after installing the bumper on the car, the power connectors are connected to them.

Broach wiring for connecting PTF

From the button or knob for turning on the fog lights, you need to stretch the wires to the fuse box. To do this, you will need several wires from 20 cm to 1.5 m long (depending on the connection diagram and the characteristics of a particular car).

The meaning of the connection is quite simple: the switch must turn on the relay, which in turn will close the power circuit and supply voltage to the foglights. This work is easiest to do according to a universal scheme suitable for almost any car brand (see video above).

On machines that are factory prepared for connecting PTF, everything is much simpler. Otherwise, you will have to lay the wiring yourself.

  • The positive contacts of each headlight are connected to each other, and then one common wire is connected to the corresponding relay of the power circuit, according to the PTF connection diagram.
  • The negative terminal of each fog lamp is connected to the body or chassis of the vehicle. The joint must be well cleaned of paint, rust and dirt.
  • It is better to fix all additional wires to body elements or other wiring with plastic clamps or electrical tape.

Well, it will not be difficult to insert a relay and a fuse into the corresponding seat socket.

Installing the fog lamp switch

Depending on the car model, the fog lights can be turned on with a separate button in the vehicle light on / off control unit or with the turn signal and headlight control knob.

In the latter case, it will be necessary to dismantle this unit and install in its place a new unit equipped with a fog lamp switch. When performing this work, it is important to select all the fasteners of the covers and panels, then dismantling will not bring additional problems with broken plastic parts.

After completing all the stages of installing the PTF, it remains to check the connection sequence, the reliability of the fastening of the connections, connect the negative terminal to the battery and test the fog lamp. If the turning on and off of the fog lights occurs in the normal mode, it is necessary to fine-tune the light flux in height (see the adjustment diagram). In the future, do not forget to regularly clean the foglights from dirt and timely change burnt out bulbs.

The relevance of the use of additional optics

Experienced drivers know how sometimes it is problematic to overcome some sections of the route in bad weather. High beam or low beam reflects off moisture particles suspended in the air. The settling fog significantly reduces the visibility on the way.

Visibility is improved by lowering the height of the light beam. For this, additional lighting devices are mounted - fog lights. They are located closer to the asphalt surface, where there is a lower density of wet particles, and the beam is able to reach further sections of the track.

The advantages of such devices are the following factors:

  • provides a significant improvement in visibility for the driver;
  • a car equipped with fog lights can be seen from a more distant distance;
  • the kit has a relatively low price tag;
  • if necessary, the equipment can be mounted independently.

It is preferable to install fog lights from well-known brands or trusted manufacturers in order to get a guaranteed high-quality result.

Fog lights. Do you need?

From the point of view of aesthetics, of course, unnecessary light sources on the car always look more impressive, especially if they are bright. But how urgent is the need for fog lights, which lamps are better to use in them, how to connect and where to install? And what color should the glass be? A lot of questions, but they all break down on one single "want". In principle, fog lights are needed if they live up to their name and purpose. Fog lights are not just extra headlights. This is a light that is designed specifically for driving in poor visibility conditions, namely in fog.

That is why a yellow filter is installed in the foglights. In this case, it does not matter at all what kind of lamp is in the headlamp - a halogen lamp, an ordinary incandescent lamp or diode fog lights. The main thing is the color of the luminous flux. And that's why. Mist is a water suspension consisting of microscopic particles of moisture. Falling on the surface of each drop, white light refracts and scatters, turning into an impenetrable veil. It turns out a solid wall of white light, a cloud through which it is difficult to see anything. The yellow spectrum, on the other hand, is capable of penetrating suspended matter without scattering so much, therefore, visibility is generally better when using a yellow filter.

What do you need to install fog lights?

For self-installation of fog lights, a minimum set of tools is required. The car owner must have the knowledge and skills to work with electrical wiring, since the safety of the car as a whole depends on the correct installation.

Set of tools:

  • color electrical circuit of the car;
  • nippers or side cutters;
  • a knife for cleaning wires;
  • pliers for crimping terminals (terminal block);
  • soldering iron.

A set of materials required for installation:

  • a set of fog lamps suitable for installation in standard holes in the bumper or universal ones that are mounted on the surface of the bumper;
  • stranded copper wire with a cross section of 1.5-2 mm² with insulation capable of operating at low temperatures and resistant to gasoline and oil vapors;
  • relay for turning on (usually standard relays for turning on headlights from front-wheel drive VAZ models are used);
  • external housing for installing a knife fuse;
  • knife fuse 30 A;
  • control key suitable for the interior design (preferably with a backlight lamp);
  • connectors and terminals for connecting wires to circuit elements;
  • heat shrink tubing of suitable diameter;
  • electrical tape on a polyethylene or cloth base;
  • plastic ties;
  • automobile corrugated hose for wire laying.

Set of fog lights for Ford Focus 3

The principle of connecting fog lights

To equip a car with fog lights, you will need:

  • wires;
  • insulating tape;
  • fog lights;
  • power button;
  • relay and fog lamp block;
  • fuse (15 amp).

If there are no special places for fog lights on the bumper of the car, you need to drill them yourself in symmetrical places, or buy headlights that are simply screwed to the bumper.

The car must be driven onto the overpass and the ground must be disconnected from the battery so that a short circuit does not occur during repair work.

How to dismantle a fog lamp

To replace a burnt out lamp, it is required to remove the headlight and disconnect the contacts.

How to change a lamp or a broken tumanka:

  1. Disconnect the battery terminals.
  2. Mark the position of the foglights on the mountings.
  3. Unscrew the screws and disconnect the block with cables.
  4. Remove the spring and pull out the lamp.

When installing the lamps, do not touch the bulb with your hands. This reduces the service life of the halogen gas-filled light elements.

The fog lamp can be disassembled for glass replacement by heating. For this you need:

  1. Place the part in a box with a small hole.
  2. Turn on the hair dryer for 10-20 minutes.
  3. Gently pry off the old glass with a screwdriver and tear off the sealant.
  4. Clean the surface of the reflector from dirt and remove the old adhesive.
  5. Degrease the frame, apply sealant and apply new glass.

After crystallization of the composition, the fog lamp can be installed on the car in the reverse order.

Fog lights improve road visibility during precipitation, snowfall, fog. Correct connection and configuration will ensure the correct operation of the system at any time of the year.

How to install PTF and connect fog lights with your own hands

A modern car is equipped with a number of lighting solutions to improve comfort and safety during vehicle operation.

As a rule, in addition to head optics and taillights, many cars also have a PTF in front. The so-called fog lights do a good job of illuminating the road in poor visibility conditions (fog or rain), and are also an additional source of illumination at night.

It is worth noting that many cars, both domestic and budget foreign cars, often do not have regular PTFs from the factory. Taking into account all the advantages, for a number of reasons, many owners are interested in how to install foglights with their own hands.

Next, we will consider how the fog lights are connected, the PTF connection diagram, as well as what features and nuances should be paid attention to during installation.

How to install foglights and connect PTF correctly

Installation of PTF connection

First of all, you need to decide whether there are versions of a specific vehicle with PTF. The fact is that the same model, but already in the middle or top-end configuration, is usually already equipped with fog lights (lanterns).

In this case, the installation of the PTF usually does not require a separate preparation of the site for installation, since the tumanki are placed in ready-made places covered with plugs. You can also often find ready-made wiring for PTF, etc., which greatly simplifies installation.

Installation of foglights: requirements

Installation of fog lights requirements for traffic rules

If there are no ready places, then the PTF can be taken out separately (external foglights) or the front bumper will need to be redesigned for tumanki. By the way, in the latter case, such a decision may turn into some difficulties, since these modifications are considered to be changes in the design of the vehicle and its partial re-equipment.

To avoid problems, it is necessary to study the requirements for the installation of fog lights. It is quite obvious that PTFs must be positioned, installed and connected correctly. According to the SDA GOST 8769-75 determines that fog lighting devices are allowed to be installed:

  • in an amount of no more than 2 units;
  • no further than 400 mm from the side plane of the vehicle, that is, along the outer edge of the headlight;
  • not lower than 250 mm from the road surface along the lower edge of the headlight;
  • the light holes of the fog lights should be below the upper point of the light-transmitting opening of the dipped-beam headlights;
  • the angles of visibility of the PTF, within which they are not obstructed by certain elements of the machine, must be + 15–10 vertically, + 45–10 horizontally;
  • the inclusion of the PTF should be possible only together with the dimensions;

It turns out that if there are no regular places for installing PTF, such places need to be selected, since the installation of fog lights must be carried out in strict accordance with the requirements for their placement on the car, as well as connection.

We also add that after installing the PTF or carrying out certain work, it may be necessary to adjust the headlights (including fog lamps) in order to obtain the correct angle of incidence of the light flux on the roadway.

Connecting foglights: available methods

How to connect fog lights with your own hands

Having decided how to put the fog lights and fixing the fog lights themselves, you can proceed to connecting them. Connecting fog lights can be done in several ways. In practice, if the car already has standard wiring for the PTF, such a connection will be the simplest.

In this case, the factory electrical circuit partially or completely has lead wires, connectors, relays, fuses, switches, etc. In fact, you only need to put the headlights on and connect them to the connectors.

As a rule, this option is available when new PTFs are installed on a car originally equipped with foglights. The main thing is to choose a PTF suitable for fasteners, connections, dimensions and other characteristics.

If there is no circuit for connecting the PTF on the car, then you need to lay the wiring on the tumanki yourself. To do this, you need:

  • insulated copper wires;
  • fog lamp relay;
  • fog lamp button (PTF switch)
  • fuse;
  • fog lights.

Immediately, we note that you should not connect the PTF to the side lights. Please note that the wires and the size switch are not designed for additional load. It is also necessary to connect the PTF through a fuse that protects the machine from fire in the event of a short circuit.

The fuse rating is calculated taking into account the power of the PTF. For example, 60 W llamas, two PTFs, then 60 W * 2/12 V is 10 A. In this case, the fuse must have a margin, that is, instead of 10 A, it is better to take 15 A.

Fog lamp connection diagram

PTF connection fog lamp connection diagram

Immediately, we note that the simplest scheme for connecting a PTF is to connect fog lamps from a battery through a switch. Each fog lamp has 2 contacts for powering the lamps.

On both headlights 1, such a contact is connected using a wire into a circuit, after which it is connected to ground or to the metal parts of the car body by screwing it to the body with a bolt. However, in fact, it is optimal to lead this wire to the battery itself and connect it to the negative terminal of the battery.

With such a connection, there is no risk that the minus from the body will rot away, the fastening will deteriorate or the attachment point will be damaged by corrosion. As for the second contacts, these are positive contacts, which are also connected with a wire in a circuit, after which a connection to the positive terminal of the battery is realized. In this case, a direct connection is not made, the wire is first brought out to the contact of the PTF relay.

Further, the relay contacts are connected with wires through a fuse to the "+" of the battery, as well as to the "-" of the battery or to the mass of the car. Also, the corresponding contact is connected to the positive of the battery through the switch and the fuse.

As for the PTF power button, such a button is placed on the instrument panel in the car's interior in any convenient place. Also, if the car has a version with PTF, you can buy a regular switch.

The relay is installed on the circuit board, the fuse is installed in the block (in a free slot). The main thing is to implement the correct connection and protection of the PTF circuit using relays and fuses.

  • The second option, when the fog lamp connection diagram involves connecting to the "plus" through the ignition switch, is considered more complicated. In fact, from the PTF power button, the circuit is not routed through the fuse on the battery, but to any wire where there is voltage when the ignition is turned on.

Taking into account the fact that, according to this scheme, power is supplied to the tumanki only when the ignition is on, the decision to connect the fog lights according to this scheme makes it possible to automatically turn off the PTF after removing the key from the lock.

In practice, this allows you to avoid situations when drivers forget to turn off the fog lights when the engine is not running, which causes the battery to discharge. We also add, in order to fulfill the requirement of the rules regarding the inclusion of fogs only together with the dimensions, the PTF button is usually connected to the outdoor lighting switch. This solution allows you to implement the connection of PTF, taking into account all the rules and requirements of traffic rules.

What is the bottom line

As you can see, although the presence of front fog lights (as opposed to a special rear fog light) is not mandatory for traffic rules, the PTF connection must be performed correctly. In other words, when installing fog lights on a car, you need to take into account all the requirements regarding the placement and connection of fog lights.

It is also important that the PTFs are correctly wired through fuses and relays in order to avoid fires caused by short circuits. Finally, we note that correctly selected and adjusted fog lights significantly increase safety when driving in poor visibility conditions.

At the same time, in the norm, there is no strong blinding of the drivers of oncoming cars. If the fog lights blind oncoming drivers, then it is necessary to check the PTF adjustments on a special stand, as well as the correct installation of the fog lights themselves, taking into account the existing requirements and standards.

and so you are going to put the fog lights! but you don't really understand how, like there is a lot of information about this in the net, and there are also a lot of schemes, but let's imagine that the PPTs you don't understand the schemes,

I will try to write a very detailed report that after any person was able to connect them right near the house, and does not pay anyone money! The most important thing is to remove the battery terminals!

I will describe in my Matiz! but on this BZ can be connected to anyone! and so let's start! first what we need!

1) the ANTI-FOGS themselves!

PTF on Matiz!

2) a 15 amp fuse (if you don't want flattery in the fuse box, then the fuse case!

ABOUT THIS IS

3) fog lamp relay! And a block for it)

relay 4-pin and plug to it!

4) the button for turning on the fog lights!

well, and 5) wires, I don’t remember the cross-section and how many meters (ask in the store, say about PTFs)

6) a trifle of electrical tape, clamps on wires and all that!

JOB

I didn’t take a photo of anything, so I’ll explain it on other people's photos and on a piece of paper! I’m not a walker, but it’s not important that it’s clear!

and so let's go! according to GOST, it is necessary that the fog lights turn on with current dimensions, (but this does not mean that we will not be able to drive with dimensions but without fog lights), that is, if the dimensions are turned off, then the fog lights button will click empty! but when you turn on the dimensions, you can turn on or off these same fog lights with the fog lamp button!

let's start with the location of the RELAY! you can put it anywhere, even in a common block, I did not suffer and put it behind the instrument panel over the mognitola, so I write as I did) remove the black (who did not paint) central panel, and we see this, that's where I threw the relay

where the arrows point to the backlight lamps of the stove regulator! there are 2 of them, but we do not need them, follow the wire from them and find a 2-pin connector (since the backlight turns on with the dimensions we need it) and so we will hook the first contact on the relay to this wire !

and so everyone knows how the PTF switches work (I will not explain! so we take the first piece of wire (do not cut it right away) we connect one end to the backlight connector of the stove regulators and the other connector to the button, (do not ask me to which connector on the button to connect, I really don't know, I was looking for it by poking, it's not difficult), then we go along the chain and from the button we lead the wire to the relay contact 85 on the diagram (the relay should also be written, if there are no such numbers, then just turn the relay so that the contacts are located as on scheme) everything is the same there

that is, after these actions we already have a circuit of 12 volts from the dimensions, then a button that breaks the circuit and then a relay 85 contact)

pull the distant contact 87 through the plug under the pedals and pull it towards AKUM! do not forget to put a fuse, it should be placed between the plus of Akum and the relay 87 contact (the fuse is closer to Akum) we go half way further 86 we throw the relay contact on the body, or a minus (most often a black wire) would be nice and stretch it to Akum, but this is not necessary !

all that was left was the fog lights themselves,

Let's start with the front of the fog lights installed in a regular place, and from each headlight there are 2 wires plus and minus! with a minus, as always, throw it on the body, or connect 2 minuses from two headlights and a kinte to minus Akum) (it makes no difference! It's just that if you throw wires on the body, then you need to pull less wires! but connect and pull the pluses from 2 headlights into the salon through the same plug as the plus on Akum, ... pulled it out? Now lift it up to our relay so that the wires are not visible (just as beautiful) and connect it to the 30 connector, well, it seems, don't collect everything yet, you never know what so! so as not to disassemble again! go put the clamps on Akum ... I'll wait here for now) now turn on the dimensions and check if they work! (of course they work) well, try the foglights, if everything works, then you can hide everything and put it back together, check that it doesn't run anywhere! and insulate all bare wires)

if the fog lights do not work listen to the relay! it should click if not click then you have incorrectly connected the relay connectors! (in general, it is advisable to check all the connectors not in the car, but on the sidelines! that is, collect this whole circuit on the table and then already knowing what to connect to everything in the car)))

I hope I explained correctly and understandably! if you forgot, ask in the comments, I will answer!

yes, and I am very tired of writing all this, so wish me and press I LIKE!

Installation of fog lights

There is a choice, a comparison is necessary

There is a choice, but it is better to take a proven kit.

Yes indeed there is a choice. The market offers fairly high-quality equipment from various manufacturers, ranging from the Bosch branded line and ending with analogue kits made in China.

You can conduct a whole analytical analysis of all products with a comparison:

  • sets of supplies;
  • price corridor;
  • the presence of certain advantages of choice (some manufacturers allow you to buy not a set, but one headlight at a time), but we will leave it for marketers

As they say, the sky is for birds, and we have headlights, and a complete set. Take it as you wish, but there is no better equipment on the market than Bosch (author's opinion).

Buying equipment from other manufacturers is fraught with pitfalls that will certainly show themselves during installation. Either the valve is missing, or the wire is not long enough and must be extended, or the button for the panel is non-standard and requires additional efforts to install it.

Purchase and preparation for work

Photo of the kit before installation.

All contacts must be insulated.

We select directly for work:

  • All purchased kits;
  • 15A fuse and holder for it;
  • Curly and flat screwdrivers:
  • Rigid wire, preferably steel, 20-25 cm for pulling wires;
  • A wrench for 8 and 10 and a hexagon for adjusting the light (we will also include a tape measure here);
  • Nippers and electrical tape, as well as plastic clamps for fixing the wiring in a single bundle.

Bumper works

It is better to remove the bumper.

Moving somewhat away from the private and coming to the general, I would like to say that all work takes place in three stages:

  • Installation of headlights directly on the bumper;
  • Broaching wires and collecting the entire system;
  • Checking the correct installation and adjusting the light.

That's the whole instruction.

And we start with the bumper, where the following actions are carried out:

  • To begin with, the black bumper grilles are removed, taking into account the fact that they are fixed with both screw fasteners and with latches;
  • We remove the bumper directly by unscrewing the mounting bolts, as well as the self-tapping screws for the wheel arch liners;
  • After unscrewing the fasteners, the bumper moves forward and is removed with light movements with slight fluctuations;
  • Next, the plugs of the sockets for the fog lamps are removed, this can be done easily with a flat screwdriver, bending the latches;
  • The headlamp is inserted together with the finished purchased plug, which must be painted or glued before installation, and is fixed with three self-tapping screws in special sockets.

Working with the kit

It is no coincidence that the wires are colored.

Now we turn to the wires, buttons, fuses.

We do the following:

  • First of all, we remove the rubber seal that fixes the wiring harness in the passenger compartment (it is located behind the clutch pedal);
  • We install the button on the panel, and we take the wires out of the passenger compartment using a steel rigid wire for broaching (along the length of the bundle, we fix the new wires with plastic clamps so that there is no sagging of the wires);
  • The wiring is carried out directly to the fog lights. In this case, the right wire will be longer, it is better to run it under the radiator grill. At the same stage, the negative terminals are installed to the body bolts (except for the crankcase bolts); (see also article Kalina wiring diagram: new elements of electrical equipment)
  • Next, we find the fuse box, where we will be interested in the pink wire that provides power to the high beam. All connections are made through a 15 amp fuse;
  • Then we need 87 and 30 relays and their power contacts, which, after passing through the fuse, go to the foglights;
  • Contacts 85 and 86 provide the negative component of the network, with output to the negative terminal of the battery and the car body, but with a mandatory "mark" in the fuse;
  • Next, the installation is checked and reassembled.

And we put everything in place.

Light adjustment

How to install fog lights on Kalina is already clear, it remains to adjust the light. To do this, we find the hole under the headlamp, where the adjustment screw is located, and we use it to adjust the light level.

Adjustment is the final touch.

Why is it worth installing fog lights

Unfortunately, not the entire car range, which modern automakers so generously offer us, have correctly selected fog lights.

Attention! The fact is that in some cars, manufacturers save quite a lot on electrics, which means that the light, which should be bright enough, cannot fully manifest itself simply because it does not receive enough energy for this.

As for bad weather, very often the headlights that were installed by the manufacturer are simply not able to cope with the weather conditions that the car gets into. The number of diodes in them is simply not enough.

Those who doubt the advisability of such an acquisition and its adjustment should be aware that fog lights help not only in bad weather. Very often, experienced drivers note that the use of such light protects against accidents in places with a lot of turns, since the light does not strike the eyes, but spreads along the asphalt.

If you are choosing fog lights for the first time, pay attention to their characteristics:

  • the thickness of the glass and the strength of the case;
  • the possibility of repair, for example, changing the lighting element or glass;
  • quality of fastening and regulation;
  • aerodynamics.

Preparation for work

Before heading to an auto parts store and choosing fog lights (PTF), car owners should know that the order of their installation is regulated by the Road Traffic Rules.

In particular, the installation of the PTF on the car should be carried out in the places indicated by the car manufacturer.

With regard to AvtoVAZ wiring products, the fog lamp connection diagram on Kalina implies their installation in the front bumper:

  1. For this, it has special places covered with plastic plugs;
  2. The complete set of purchased headlights must have all the necessary elements for correct connection (wiring, terminal blocks, power button, fuse and relay).

What can be purchased for Kalina

A wide variety of fog lights for cars amazes the imagination with their appearance and shapes:

  1. Round;
  2. Oval;
  3. Square;
  4. Twin;
  5. Recessed;
  6. For outdoor installation, etc.

Not all PTFs are suitable for Lada Kalina, which forces the owners to redo the mount with their own hands

However, only a few PTFs produced by different manufacturers are suitable for Lada Kalina.

In particular, these are:

  • Bosch products with flat headlights and sold in pairs only;
  • Fog lights "Kirzhach" with lenticular (convex) glass;
  • Fog lights "Luch" - an analogue of German products. The price is lower, but so is the quality;
  • Products of Chinese companies under the ProSport trademark.

How can you install

There are 2 ways to install foglights on a Lada Kalina car:

  1. Without removing the front bumper;
  2. Removing the bumper.

The factory manual provides detailed information on all the attachment points of the front bumper

Methods for installing PTF on VAZ 2113, 2114, 2115

Installation of foglights can be done in several ways. Which one to stop at, each car owner decides for himself, based on his capabilities and preferences. Let's consider the most common installation options:

  1. Buying a front bumper with PTF. In this case, the headlights are sold already fitted in the front bumper. As a rule, a part can be purchased without any problems in a car tuning studio and immediately installed and connected. The disadvantages of this option include high financial costs.

  2. Purchase of a bumper with holes for PTF. With this installation method, you should purchase a bumper with holes for the lights and the headlights themselves with all the necessary elements (wires, relay, power button, etc.).

  3. Self-installation of PTF is the most common method of installation, since it requires minimal financial investment. The car owner only needs to purchase headlights with the necessary installation kit and trim elements.

The layout of the PTF on the car

Before connecting the fog lights, it is important to correctly install the devices on the front of the machine. This is done in accordance with certain rules, which clearly stipulate the place of installation of the light source.

On modern cars, the installation sites of fog lights are marked out from the factory. Basically, such lighting elements are installed on more expensive vehicle trim levels. If the headlights were not installed from the factory, then the places for their installation are closed with plugs.

Fog lights on the front of the car must be installed in accordance with established regulations

Can xenon be installed in PTF

Many car owners seek to install xenon in their fog lights, arguing their actions by increasing the efficiency of lighting. Is it really so? Let's figure it out. First of all, when installing xenon in standard PTF housings, focusing is disturbed, which is associated with a different principle of operation, unlike conventional lamps. Since standard foglights are designed to work with certain lamps, they simply cannot cope with xenon. The result of such changes will be too strong a reflection in the reflector, the rays are refracted, the light becomes blurry. A well-known situation arises - blinding the drivers of oncoming vehicles, which increases the risk of an accident. Installing xenon in a PTF is far from the most successful solution and the effectiveness of such light is questionable, so it should be abandoned.

When installing xenon light in standard foglights, focusing is disturbed, which leads to blinding oncoming drivers

How to supply the PTF with the necessary materials and tools

The installation of fog lights, regardless of the chosen installation method, requires certain parts and tools, without which it is impossible.

What is a button and a relay for?

In order to install fog lights on a VAZ, it is necessary to assemble certain parts in advance or purchase a ready-made kit. The cost of such a set rarely exceeds one thousand rubles.

The PTF kit includes:

  • wires with pads and terminals for a specific VAZ model. There are three of them as standard: one connects the headlights, the second goes to the relay from the switch and the third goes from the relay to the fuse box;

  • fog lamp relay;

  • power button;

  • clips and ties that fix the wires;

  • fog lights.

Which PTFs to prefer? The headlights themselves are chosen by the driver to his taste, but the main thing when choosing is not to be mistaken with the power, so as not to overload the generator and the car's wiring. It is better not to purchase headlights with xenon: the generator has a certain power reserve, but at the same time it is not designed for too high loads. Ordinary bulbs will suffice.

How to connect fog lights with your own hands

Before the direct installation of the headlights, their location is determined. In the case of a VAZ 2115 car, there are already standard holes in the bumper for installing additional lighting devices. Similar ones can be cut in the bumpers of the VAZ 2113 and VAZ 2114.

It is not at all necessary to spoil the appearance of the bumper - the fog lights are easily installed on special brackets. Many PTF kits contain special decorative plugs that add attractiveness and accuracy to the installed headlights and facilitate their installation.

Installation and connection algorithm

  1. Installing the power button in the car. In the case of the VAZ-2114, the space for the key is on the left side of the driver on the front panel. However, its placement can be arbitrary - the main thing is that it is convenient for the driver to drive the car. Often, PTF power buttons are installed instead of plugs on the control panel.

  2. The grill with the speaker is removed from the standard front panel. There are two connectors behind it - one is designed to turn on the headlights, the second is to indicate the operation of lighting devices and the backlight of the button itself.
  3. The button is placed in a convenient place, chips are connected to it. The speaker grill can be returned to its place.

  4. There should be a mounting block under the hood that combines fuses and relays. In the same place, the PTF relay will be mounted, so the unit must be removed: for this, the nuts that secure it are unscrewed and it is raised.

  5. On the bottom panel of the mounting block there are two pads - 7 and 8. Each of the pads is signed during manufacture at the factory, so it is impossible to make mistakes at this stage.
  6. The PTF kit has a wiring harness with four contacts. The said wires are stretched to the fuse box from the fog lamp relay.

  7. The relay is mounted in the engine compartment of the vehicle.

  8. The wires coming from the PTF relay are connected to the 7th and 8th connectors of the mounting block: in the 7th connector on the 8th terminal, the 30th terminal from the relay is connected, the 87th terminal is connected to the connector 1, the 85th terminal is to the connector 17 on the 7th block, the 86th terminal is connected to the ground ... From 8 pads 2 and 3 terminals are directed to the left and right fog lights, respectively.

  9. Ground wires are connected to the "foglights": they are usually attached to the headlight block nuts.

Wiring diagram of connectors and terminals for fog lamps

The efficiency of the entire connection can be checked by turning on the side lights - only then will the fog lights work.

Fog lights function only when the side lights are on

After completing the installation of the PTF on the car, they only need to be properly adjusted. The flow of light should not dazzle drivers in the oncoming lane.

Video: instructions for installing and connecting fog lights

Fog lights are essential lighting equipment on any vehicle to facilitate travel in low visibility conditions. If there is no PTF on a certain car model, you can install them yourself. The installation procedure does not require special knowledge and can be carried out by the driver without the involvement of third parties.

How to install fog lights in your car

Many car enthusiasts are interested in whether it is possible to install the headlights on their own. Of course, it is possible, this is not so difficult, special skills are not required for this. It is quite clear that there is no single instruction for installing fog lights, and there can be no: the installation of headlights in cars of different brands and different models has its own characteristics, but, nevertheless, general rules for attaching and connecting headlights still exist - we are talking about them we will tell you now.

Purchase your own fog lights first. Which headlights to buy - xenon or halogen - decide for yourself.

However, when buying headlights, be sure to take into account the fact that they are also subdivided into types according to the principle of their attachment. Depending on it, the headlights can be mounted and mortise

If you can install hinged headlights mounted on brackets on almost any car, then you will not be able to put inset headlights, for example, on the sixth model of the Zhiguli, since such headlights can only be embedded in a plastic bumper.

In addition to the headlights themselves, you will also need:

  • wires;
  • insulating tape;
  • headlight relay and block for it;
  • connectors for wires;
  • headlight switch button. Often there is a free button or toggle switch on the dashboard of a car, in which case you can use it. If there is no free button, you will have to embed it yourself.

General order of work

  1. According to the rules of the road, it is allowed to install no more than one pair of fog lamps. They should be fixed at a level not lower than 25 cm from the road surface. In addition, it is forbidden to move the headlights forward more than forty centimeters from the side dimensions. Choose a spot for the headlights according to these guidelines and secure them there. To install mortise headlights (if there are no ready-made holes for them in the bumper), remove the bumper and carefully cut holes of the required size and shape in it
  2. Read the instructions that came with your headlight kit. It should clearly and in detail describe in what order, where and how the wires from the headlights should be routed and to which contact which wire should be connected. In addition to the verbal description, the manual contains an electrical diagram for connecting the headlights, which you will also need to navigate during operation.
  3. Before starting work on connecting the headlights, be sure to remove the negative terminal from the battery!

Further, for clarity, we will describe the process of connecting headlights using the example of their connection in a VAZ 2109 car

Install the power button.

  1. To the right of the speaker grill for the headlight-on button, a regular place is already provided, while still closed with a plastic plug. Remove the grill, unscrew the speaker, and you will see two connectors for the button.
  2. Remove the plug from the panel, put the button in its place, connect the button to the connectors. Replace the speaker and replace the grille.

Connect the relay and headlight power wires.

  1. Open the hood and look for a black box under it - this is a mounting block. Unscrew and lift to reveal the connectors.
  2. Run the wires from the fog lights under the hood to the mounting block.
  3. Pull three wires from the relay to the black box (first select a place where it will be convenient to screw it to the car body). The fourth wire from the relay is the ground wire; it does not need to be connected to the mounting block.
  4. Next, use the wiring diagram supplied with your vehicle's instruction manual. In accordance with it, disconnect the connectors indicated in the diagram as Ш 8 and Ш 7 from the black box, and insert the terminals of the wires leaving the headlights and the relay into them (in this case, again, follow the electrical diagram).
  5. Replace connectors Ш 7 and Ш 8 in their place.
  6. Put back the black box.
  7. Screw the relay to the machine body with a bolt, and under the same bolt fasten the ground wire from the relay.
  8. Fasten the ground wires from each headlight securely near the headlights themselves on the car body.
  9. Connect the terminal to the battery and check how your new foglights shine.

one). Disconnect the mass from the battery.

2). We unscrew the bumper mounts (on the side, bottom and top of several screws), remove it.

3). Using a screwdriver, unscrew the screws holding the plugs.

four). We insert the headlights into the places where the plugs were. We fasten with the same screws.

five). We take a long wire from the kit, insert it into the right headlight, then into the left one and stretch it into the engine compartment from the side of the battery.

6). We remove the washer tank, and then the expansion tank.

7). With the key "13" we eliminate the wipers.

8). Unscrew the protective plastic to access the left edge of the upholstery.

9). Relax the clamp and remove the hose.

ten). We remove the upholstery.

eleven). We stretch the wires along the standard wiring through the plug into the car interior and fasten them with the clamps included in the kit.

12). Putting all the details in reverse order. Remember to connect the two black wires to the outer crankcase bolts.

thirteen). We pass to the car interior. Remove the protective cover under the steering column. To do this, turn 3 locks 90 degrees.

14). Use a screwdriver to unscrew the self-tapping screw, which is located under the fuse box. We take out the block.

15). We remove the rear window heating button and the plug from the center console. They are to the left of the clock.

16). We take out the button with wires from the set. We stretch the long blue wire to the fuse box, and connect the remaining three to the rear window heating button using the clips included in the kit. We connect everything according to the color scheme.

17). Insert the fog lamp relay included in the kit into the fuse box. We connect the wires according to the diagram:

  • long blue to A85;
  • red and black to 30 and 86;
  • yellow wire from 87 with two outputs to F17, F18;
  • we take the previously passed wires from under the engine compartment and connect to F17, F18;
  • insert two fuses from the kit into sockets F17, F18.

eighteen). We collect the elements. We connect the mass to the battery, turn on the ignition and check the serviceability of the fog lights (PTFs will work only when the ignition is on).

Installing fog lights on Lada Vesta

This process includes the following steps:

  • removing the bumper;
  • preparation of the seat;
  • installation of headlights;
  • PTF connection.

one). Disconnect and take out the battery.

2). Remove the front bumper. The lower part of the fastening to the body with 4 bolts to the body and 4 screws to the wheel arch liners. We turn it all out. On the sides we turn off 2 self-tapping screws that attach it to the lockers. Unscrew the 6 bolts of the upper attachment to the body under the hood.

3). It remains to remove two bolts under the license plates. Here you already need to hold the bumper by the beam. Pull gently towards you to disengage from the side brackets.

four). Now you have access to the right place, and it's time to move on to the next stage.

Preparing seats and mounting headlights

one). In place of the fog lights, there are factory plugs. Using a 76 mm crown, cut holes in them.

2). You should also take care of the hole for the PTF button in the car dashboard. To do this, select a place on the center console or next to the trunk opening button.

Connecting fog lights

one). From the right PTF, we lay the wiring inside a metal box. We put the wiring into the passenger compartment from the engine compartment in the area of the pedal assembly through a special hole.

2). We connect according to a universal scheme, as in the case of connecting equipment on previous versions of the Lada auto-line. The load power is taken from the battery (bolt M6) and is fed through the fuse to the contact relay.

3). Plus comes from the mounting block from the size fuse. Alternatively, you can use a plus cigarette lighter.

four). The relay itself is installed under the hood or directly in the passenger compartment.

five). This method of connecting fog lights can be called the most optimal in terms of economy and minimal interference with the electronic part of the car.

Installation and adjustment

Before adjusting the foglights, make sure the following requirements are met. First, there should be two devices. Secondly, their location is determined in this way:

  • the distance to the side surface of the machine should not exceed 40 cm;
  • distance from the road surface - at least 25 cm;
  • the openings for the light of these devices must be in the area of the opening that transmits the light of the dipped headlights;
  • viewing angles - vertically it is + 15-100, and horizontally + 45-100.

Required condition! You can turn on the fog devices when there is a side light.

For those who are convinced of the presence of fog lights, the correctness of their installation and full compliance with the owner's requirements, we offer detailed instructions on how to set up the fog lights with your own hands.

Video how to make the adjustment yourself:

The car must always stand on a level surface and at a distance of at least 5 five meters from it there must be a flat and preferably one-color wall. The ideal distance is 10 meters, but if the road does not allow this, then this condition is not required. Of course, those who decide to independently adjust the fog lights should wait until darkness and carry out the procedure in that part of the city where there is no additional evening lighting.

Also check the condition of the wheels, because if one of them is even slightly deflated, it will not be possible to adjust normally.

Our most important participant is the wall. It is on it that we will create a scheme according to which we will carry out the setting of the foglights.

The following parameters must be marked on the wall:

  • center of the machine;
  • the center of each headlight;
  • height from the ground to the center of the headlamp.

The first straight line will connect the dots representing the height at which the headlights are located. Pay special attention to the coincidence in height of the center points. If the machine is standing on a level surface, they must be on the same level.

Adjusting the fog lights is to create a light that will sufficiently illuminate the driver's path and not interfere with other road users. This requires that the light and its angle of refraction correspond to certain parameters.

Setting the light level

The level at which the lighting should pass determines the angle of incidence of the headlights. You can calculate its normal position as follows.

If the angle of incidence of the dipped beam is 1%, that is, at a distance of five meters from the wall, it will be 5 cm lower than the indicated points on the wall. Data on the angle of incidence for the headlights can be seen directly on their surface. We measure down from our straight line as many centimeters as we calculated, taking into account the angle of incidence indicated on the headlights and the distance from the wall of the car, and see how our fog lights shine. Normally, the light should pass absolutely evenly along this line, refracting only at the central points.

Breakpoint adjustment

Note! The angle of refraction of light must occur precisely at the center point of the headlamp.

Marking this point is elementary. Most manufacturers even put a cross or other mark in the center, but if it is not there, you can mark it yourself without any problems and also mark it on the wall.

Thus, before setting up the foglights, you need to find out the angle of incidence and the point of refraction of light, and based on these parameters, achieve lighting at the desired distance from the indicated line.

Further, as they say, a matter of technology. Having determined how the light should look, we bring the headlights to the required state with a screwdriver or other improvised tools.

You need to constantly monitor the condition of the fog lights. They are "native" or installed after the purchase of the car, from time to time their work may be disrupted. You need to monitor not only the height, but also the brightness of the lighting. We also note that this procedure carried out in car dealerships is not always carried out correctly. Tuning will not take much time, but it will provide safe road traffic for the driver, passengers and other road users.

The installation of fog lights is not a mandatory requirement of traffic rules, and its necessity for many motorists remains a controversial issue. But in the case of this event, you should be guided by certain rules.

Installation requirements for fog lamps

Like many automotive equipment, fog lights must be installed and positioned correctly to meet the requirements. According to traffic rules (traffic rules) on the basis of GOST 8769-75, it is allowed to install fog lighting devices only in the amount of 2 pieces. They should be located:

  • no further than 40 cm from the side plane of the car (along the outer edge of the headlight);
  • not lower than 25 cm from the road surface (along the lower edge of the headlight);
  • the light openings of the fog lamps must be below the upper point of the light-transmitting opening of the dipped-beam headlights.
  • the angles of visibility of the fog lights, within which they are not obstructed by any elements of the car, should be: vertically + 15–10 о, horizontally + 45-10 о.

Photo of fog lights, autoflit.ru

Fog lighting devices should only be switched on in conjunction with the side light.

On modern cars, as a rule, the vehicle manufacturers have already taken care of the installation location of the fog lights. Most cars have special places for PTF on the bumper, and even if the device itself is absent, then there are plugs where it should be located. They must be removed and a PTF installed in their place.

In the photo - fog lights, drive2.ru

If the car does not provide a place for the PTF, then it will have to be selected. In this case, the installation of fog lights must be carried out in strict accordance with the requirements for their placement on the car and connection. Correct installation and adjustment of these instruments will ensure maximum performance. The headlights are adjusted after their installation with the fixing of the provided mountings. At the same time, they achieve the correct angle of incidence of the luminous flux on the road.

Ways to connect fog lights

Connecting fog lights can be done in several ways. The simplest and most reliable is to connect to the existing car wiring, intended for power supply, PTF. In this case, the factory electrical circuit already contains all the necessary elements (lead wires, connectors for connection, relay, fuse, switch) - all that remains is to install the headlights and connect them to the existing connectors. This method is implemented only on fully equipped vehicles, when new PTFs are purchased to replace the installed ones or to replenish the vehicle. When purchasing headlights, you should make sure that they fit the car model, both in terms of plug connection and installation parameters.

If the car does not have an electrical circuit for connecting the PTF, then it will have to be laid on its own. This will require insulated copper wires, a switch, a relay, a fuse and the headlights themselves.

Photo of components for connecting fog lights, forum.my2110.ru

A common mistake is connecting the PTF to the side lights. The wires and switch of these devices are not designed for the current consumption of the headlights!

The fuse in the PTF power circuit is not a luxury. This device will save you from a possible fire in the event of a short circuit in the wiring. Its rating is calculated based on the power of the headlights. If the lamps in them, for example, are 60 W, then the calculation of the current in the supply circuit for two PTFs is as follows.

In the photo - fuses in the PTF power circuit, drive2.ru

60 W * 2/12 V = 10 A.

The fuse is always chosen with a small margin - in this case, 15 A is required.

Fog lamp connection diagrams

The simplest diagram for connecting fog lights is directly from the battery, through a switch. Each PTF has two contacts for powering the lamps. One of them on both headlights is connected with a wire in one circuit and connected to the mass (metal body part) of the car with a rigid bolt fastener. The vehicle body is connected to the negative terminal of the battery. In fact, it is better to lead the wire to the battery itself and connect directly to its terminal with the "-" sign - this is more reliable, there is no risk of loss of power due to corrosion of the body and bolt.

Photo of the fog lamp connection diagram, drive2.ru

The second contacts of the headlights are used to connect to the "+" of the storage battery. They are also connected together, and the wire is brought to the relay contact with the inscription 87. Further, the relay contacts are connected with wires to:

  • 30th - connected through a fuse to the positive of the battery;
  • 86th - to the minus of the battery or a rigid bolted connection to the mass of the car;
  • 85th - to the "+" of the battery through the switch and fuse used in the circuit of the 30th contact.

The PTF power button is mounted on the car interior panel in a convenient place. The relays are located on a circuit board. In the fuse box, as a rule, there is a free connector for installing an additional PTF used in the circuit. You can also use one of those installed in the unit.

In the photo - installation of the PTF switch button, ch.pp.ru

A more complex scheme based on the previous one is connecting to the plus of the battery through the ignition switch. That is, from the PTF power button, the electrical circuit is laid not on the fuse and then to the battery, but to any wire in which voltage appears when the ignition is turned on. Since it is possible to connect the fog lights according to this scheme to the power supply only when the ignition is on, this will avoid the situation when the PTFs are accidentally forgotten to be lit when the engine is not running.

The previous schemes will make it possible to fulfill the traffic rules requirement that parking lights must be lit before turning on the PTF. To connect the headlights in accordance with the current legislation, the PTF button is connected to the vehicle's exterior lighting switch.

Despite the fact that the installation of fog lights on a car is not a mandatory requirement of road traffic regulations, many car owners still equip their vehicles with this additional option. Most find the installation process fairly straightforward. And by and large, these people are right, because there really are no special difficulties here, it is enough just to follow simple rules and requirements.

fog lights

How to install the fog lights correctly?

For almost every element of the car, there is a certain regulation, or technical standard, which simply must be unconditionally observed. In the case of "foglights", lighting devices of this type are installed in accordance with the requirements imposed on them. The technical requirements spelled out in the traffic rules refer to the state standard under the number 8769-75.

For clarity, it is worth considering each of them in more detail:

  • Quantity limitation. The number is strictly limited, to be precise, there should be no more than two.
  • Location. "Fog lights" should be located no further than forty centimeters from the side edge of the car and not less than twenty-five centimeters from the roadway.
  • Moreover, in fact the light holes of the fog lamps must be lower in level, than low beam headlights.
  • The angles of visibility of "fog lights" should not be overlapped by elements of the car in particular vertically, this angle should be about ten degrees, and horizontally from ten to forty-five degrees.
  • The inclusion of such lighting devices should be carried out with dimensions or dipped beam.

It is noteworthy that most modern cars are either already equipped with this option, or the manufacturer has taken care of the installation site in advance and, therefore, most motorists will not have to calculate the above parameters.

Choosing fog lights and preparing them for installation

The selection of suitable fog lamps is carried out according to several main criteria, which are listed below.

  1. Fog light color. When choosing fog lights, the first thing to look out for is the color of the fog lights and the material from which the light guide part is made. The optimal fog lights are products with a yellow transmissive element made of glass. Light elements of red or blue color are ineffective in coping with fog, besides, in addition, there is a very real risk of getting a fine, because according to traffic rules, it is prohibited to have headlights of this color in front of the car. There is another small nuance that significantly increases the efficiency of the glow, so a white light bulb should be installed in fog lights with yellow glass, and vice versa, a yellow light bulb should be installed in headlights with white glass.
  2. Marking. In today's market, it is easy to get confused about the choice of optics. In order to prevent this from happening, it is worth paying special attention to the factory marking of the product. For example, the letter "E" indicates a product that has passed the certification and all the necessary tests. And the designation of the fog lamp is covered in the letter "B". It is noteworthy that the power of a light bulb in a fog lamp should not exceed sixty watts, most often they use lamps with an H-1 and H-3 base
  3. In the event that the car is equipped with standard places for installing fog lights, then you should find the original factory "fog lights" , then their installation will not take much time, and the appearance will be at its best.

The procedure for connecting fog lights

The installation of additional lighting devices initially involves interference with the wiring of the car and, therefore, during such an operation, you should clearly understand your actions, and what consequences they can lead to. There are several of the most common ways to connect fog lights. The simplest, most reliable and safe of them is to connect to standard connectors provided by the manufacturer.

In this case, no additional interventions are carried out into the car's wiring, all you need to do is connect the terminals to the standard connectors, install the button in its original place and enjoy the expansion of the complete set. Such a solution is currently available to almost all owners of new cars, and it does not matter whether it is a domestic car, or made abroad.

The only thing worth paying attention to is whether specific lighting devices are suitable for the model range of your car in terms of seats and wiring.

In the event that the manufacturer did not provide for the installation of additional elements in the car, you will have to sweat a little. To start the installation, you will need: copper wires of a suitable length, having different colors of insulation, a button-switch to the passenger compartment, a switch-on relay, a fuse of the recommended rating, and, of course, the headlights themselves.

The simplest way of connecting the headlights is a direct connection from the battery through a fuse and a switch. More complex is the connection diagram through the ignition lock, in other words, the positive wire is not drawn to the battery terminal, but to any contact on which voltage appears after turning the key in the ignition lock. The second option is quite convenient due to the fact that you will not be able to forget to turn off the "fog lights" when parking the car.

Installation features

You can talk about the features of installing this additional equipment for a long time, since in any process, of course, there are subtleties. In the case of fog lights, first of all, it is worth considering the features of the car's wiring, as well as the design of the bumper, where, in fact, most often there are mounts for additional optics.

Depending on the make and equipment of the vehicle, the installation algorithm may also differ. In order to avoid trivial mistakes, you should pay attention to the manufacturer's advice, which can certainly be found in the instructions for the car.

Fog lights mounted on SUVs require special attention, in particular when it comes to specially prepared vehicles. Such cars are often in rather extreme conditions, which forces us to be much more attentive to their technical part. In particular, it is not advisable to install lighting equipment with a plastic case on such cars; it is also worth using sealed terminals even in the engine compartment.

The wiring located outside the engine compartment should be laid exclusively in a special protective corrugation, ideally metallized, the strength of which will be much higher than that of a conventional plastic one.

Installation of fog lights can be done with your own hands, and if you follow all the rules and nuances, you will be able to do not only everything quickly, but also quite efficiently.

In foggy weather, it is very difficult to get around by car, because the road is difficult to see. In this case, even at low speed, you can get into an accident. To be on the safe side, it is recommended to install fog lights.

What is required to install a PTF?

Fog lights can be installed by yourself or you can ask a car electrician for help. In any case, all the necessary tools and additional parts can be purchased in any radio electronics market.

To install foglights, you need electrical wires and parts for connecting these wires, buttons for turning on / off the headlights, a fuse and a relay for four contacts. But before buying parts, you need to decide on the location of the fog lights.

In some modern car models, manufacturers build special niches for such headlights. On SUVs, additional fog lights are often installed on the roof on special mounts. In any case, it is necessary to attach the headlights very carefully so that they do not fall off during the ride.

Installation of fog lights

First you need to cut holes in the bumper for the headlights. To do this, you need to carefully remove it. The main thing is not to rush in this process so that the bumper does not crack.

Next, insert special plugs and fasteners into the holes, to which the fog lights are attached. When the headlights are already in place, you need to screw the bumper into place, and connect the power wires.

After that, you need to install the headlight switch on a convenient place. The wires from the button must be routed and connected to the power supply, to the fuse. In order to make the wiring correctly, you need to follow a certain algorithm.

- first you need to connect the contacts with the "+" sign from each headlight to each other, and connect to the power relay.
- the negative contacts of the headlights are connected to the body or chassis. It is worth remembering to clean the place where the contacts are connected from rust and paint.
- at the end, you need to install the relay with a fuse in the place provided for it. Also connect the wires to the relay to the headlight switch.

When everything is installed, you need to check the headlights for operability. If the headlights are working and the switch is working correctly, you need to correctly adjust the headlights. This is not so easy to do. This is a very long and painstaking process. But it is on the quality of the adjustment that the illumination of the road during fog will depend.

If you install and adjust the fog lights, observing all the rules, it will be much safer to drive even in foggy weather.

Installation of fog lights: connection diagram and features

Installation of fog lights: connection diagram and features

First of all, you need to decide whether there are versions of a specific vehicle with PTF. The fact is that the same model, but already in the middle or top-end configuration, is usually already equipped with fog lights (lanterns).

In this case, the installation of the PTF usually does not require a separate preparation of the site for installation, since the tumanki are placed in ready-made places covered with plugs. You can also often find ready-made wiring for PTF, etc., which greatly simplifies installation.

Installation of foglights: requirements

If there are no ready places, then the PTF can be taken out separately (external foglights) or the front bumper will need to be redesigned for tumanki. By the way, in the latter case, such a decision may turn into some difficulties, since these modifications are considered to be changes in the design of the vehicle and its partial re-equipment.

To avoid problems, it is necessary to study the requirements for the installation of fog lights. It is quite obvious that PTFs must be positioned, installed and connected correctly. According to the SDA GOST 8769-75 determines that fog lighting devices are allowed to be installed:

  • in an amount of no more than 2 units;
  • no further than 400 mm from the side plane of the vehicle, that is, along the outer edge of the headlight;
  • not lower than 250 mm from the road surface along the lower edge of the headlight;
  • the light holes of the fog lights should be below the upper point of the light-transmitting opening of the dipped-beam headlights;
  • the angles of visibility of the PTF, within which they are not obstructed by certain elements of the machine, must be + 15–10 vertically, + 45–10 horizontally;
  • the inclusion of the PTF should be possible only together with the dimensions;

  • insulated copper wires;
  • fog lamp relay;
  • fog lamp button (PTF switch)
  • fuse;

PTF connection via relay and button

  • During bad weather, the efficiency of the headlights is noticeably reduced, which not only makes driving less comfortable, but also affects the safety of the trip.
  • The light beam of the dipped and main beam headlights reflects off raindrops and water vapor particles during fog, forming a dense white shroud.
  • The real salvation for the driver in such weather conditions will be fog lights (FGL), which give a flat and wide horizontal beam of light.
  • It spreads over the road, well illuminating the roadside, improving the visibility of the car itself for drivers of oncoming cars.

Established PTFs are rarely found in basic vehicle trim levels, however, if desired, foglights can always be purchased separately and installed independently. To do this, it is enough to have a basic knowledge of electrical engineering and electronics.

This is how the connection diagram of the PTF button through the relay looks like:

Installation of fog lights: connection diagram and features

Everything on it is extremely simple and understandable.

  1. From the battery plus through the fuse goes to the relay contact (30) and then from the contact (85) goes to one contact of the PTF on / off button.
  2. A minus is supplied to the second contact of the button.
  3. Further, from the relay contact (87), the plus goes to the fog lamp lamps.
  4. A minus is connected to contact (86).

Please note that each car model has its own characteristics, so the scheme can be adjusted.

  1. Determine the location of the relay. Since this component is small, it can be easily hidden behind the dashboard.
  2. Determine the place location of the PTF on / off button ;
  3. We measure the length of the wires required for connection;
  4. Next, we stretch the copper wire from terminal 30 to the battery (+), having previously installed a 10 Ampere fuse in a convenient place;
  5. We connect the fog lamp button to pin 85 and install it in the selected location. As a rule, the front PTF button is installed in place of the standard buttons, where the plug is located;
  6. Relay contact 86 is connected to ground in any convenient place;
  7. We install fog lights. Manufacturers have made sure that those owners who wish to install fog lights do not invent a “bike”. In the front bumpers of the Chevrolet Niva, special niches are provided for this, which are closed with plugs. In order to remove them, it is necessary to unscrew the self-tapping screws from the inside of the bumper. We insert the headlights and look at the designations of the wires.
  8. We supply the positive wire to them from terminal 87, minus - from the car body;
  9. We are testing.

VIDEO INSTRUCTION

Useful rules - you need to know

When choosing the fog lights themselves and the place for their location, you should carefully read the accepted norms, which are strictly spelled out in the traffic rules.

So, on the territory of Russia, it is allowed to install only factory-made PTFs that have passed certification. This is confirmed by the E22 sign in a circle, which is applied to the PTF body.

  1. The fog lights themselves should be two pieces - no more and no less.
  2. They should be installed at a distance of no more than 40 cm from the edge of the lateral lens diffuser and no less than 25 cm from the level of the road surface. Most modern cars on the bumper provide standard places for the installation of PTF.
  3. If this configuration does not provide for foglights, plugs are placed in their place, which are easily removed and PTFs are mounted in their place.

Most of the fog lamps on the market use a standard H1 single filament lamp. The PTF should only be switched on together with the side lights.

Incorrect installation of fog lights can lead to accidents or cause discomfort to drivers of oncoming vehicles. Follow all the rules and you will never get into trouble.

How to connect fog lights through a relay?

When installing fog lamps through a relay, a motorist may experience some difficulties. It seems that everything is clear with the installation of the headlights themselves and the wiring, but how to connect the relay and connect everything together with the fuses. For this, it is desirable to have a minimum knowledge of electrical engineering.

Preparing to connect the fog lamp relay

Tools needed to connect the relay:

  • Knife;
  • Nippers;
  • Pliers;
  • Terminal block.

You will also need a large number of consumables, such as electrical tape, clamps, terminals, heat shrinkage, corrugation. These materials will ensure the wire connection and durability during use.

Wiring diagram for fog lights through a relay

  1. Before starting installation, you need to decide on the connection diagram:
  2. Autonomous, fog lights will turn on independently, although then the headlights can completely drain the battery, which is fraught with problems.

    Connection is made to the plus size or ignition wire + ACC

  3. See the video below for how to properly connect the relay.
  4. With ignition, in this case, without the engine running, do not turn on the fog lights, usually a plus from the ignition switch or IGN2 is used, which is best looked for with a voltmeter, since if you use a tube probe, there is a possibility of damage to the car electronics.

Read how to properly install your own fog lights.

And also about how to properly tint the car yourself.

To connect fog lights via a relay, it is not necessary to disassemble half of the body. The main part of the work is carried out in the salon, where it is necessary to provide access to the car's electrics by removing part of the front panel.

The role of the relay

The relay is necessary to reduce the current in the wires supplying the fog lights, in order to prevent them from melting. It has 4 contacts, two commutating and two control, sometimes a five-pin device is used.

The excitation winding must have a resistance of at least 70 Ohm, at a lower value, excess current and failure of the fuse are possible. The relay current is 30 A, it is possible to use 70.

The contacts are connected according to the following scheme:

  • 1st switching - fuse box;
  • 2nd commutation - fog lights;
  • 1st manager - on / off button;
  • 2nd manager - mass.

Circuit breakers

After completing the connection of the wires to the relay using the terminal blocks, install the fuses, which serve to protect the circuit from short circuits. The 15A fuse must be installed in the fuse box and through it to power the circuit from the battery. If this is not possible, the fuse should be installed separately, as close as possible to the battery.

How to connect the power button?

The on / off button must be powered by any 12V wire. Depending on preference, this can be not only the control wires from the ignition, but also any other source. Most often it is attached to the side lights.

Connecting the headlights themselves is not difficult. The red wire is a plus, it is connected to the relay, and the black wire is ground to the car body.

  • After checking the correct connection of the fog lights through the relay, you can complete the installation of the fog lights.

Traffic rules regulate the parameters of the installation of foglights. In case of non-observance, problems with technical inspection and traffic police officers are possible.

Installation of fog lights: connection diagram and features

Fog lamp installation rules:

  1. The outer side of the lamp housing should be no further than 40 cm from the edge of the bumper.
  2. Optics are mounted at least 25 cm from the ground. The countdown is carried out from the lower border of the fog lights.
  3. Additional lighting is installed below the main headlights with dipped beam.

GOST 8769-75 states how many fog lights are allowed to be installed on a car, which lamps can be used and how to set the correct angle. In case of deviations from the requirements, the inspector has the right to issue an administrative fine and a requirement to bring the vehicle into proper condition.

To pass the technical inspection, PTFs must be switched on only in conjunction with the side lights. In the event of an incorrect connection scheme, the technical inspection staff will refuse to issue a form.

Types of optics

Fog lights are classified into several types:

  • regular;
  • universal;
  • lens;
  • laser foglights.

Factory optics are mounted on vehicles with high trim levels and meet all requirements. The inclusion of optics is possible only with active dipped beam or dimensions. To adjust the angle of the beam, a special wing is used, which is located on the body.

Installation of fog lights: connection diagram and features

Installation materials

Installation of headlights does not require special knowledge or tools from the driver. Difficulties can arise only when installing power cables, but this issue is solved with the help of diagrams.

4 types of tuning tuning Toyota Corolla

Headlight mounting tools:

  • clean cloth;
  • screwdriver;
  • drill or screwdriver;
  • thin drill;
  • insulating tape;
  • stationery knife;
  • wires for connecting PTF;
  • mounting bracket;
  • fuse;
  • plastic corrugations;
  • screeds.

The junction can be insulated with heat shrink, which shrinks from a regular lighter or industrial hair dryer.

The headlights are supplied as a connection kit and contain all the necessary parts for self-assembly. A rubber plug, which is put on the lamp, protects the structure from moisture, dust, sand.

During the installation process, care must be taken not to damage the accessories that are included in the connection kit.

Fog lamp connection diagrams

There are two types of cable connections:

  • parallel;
  • consistent.

The correct and safe option is to connect through a relay and a button. To protect against short circuits, a fuse is built into the circuit, which comes complete with foglights.

Installation of fog lights: connection diagram and features

Mounting kits often contain cables that are not long enough for neat routing in the engine compartment. Connecting fog lights with your own hands will require at least 3-5 hours of time. In order to install metal fasteners, on some car models, you have to remove the bumper.

Parallel connection

With this connection, the positive contact feeds each of the headlights. A relay is installed in the wiring, as well as a 15 A fuse. To properly install the fuse, it should be placed as close to the battery as possible.

Power supply appears only when the ignition is on or the engine is running. The functionality can be supplemented by supplying 12 V from the charging control signal wire. In this case, when starting the car, the headlights will automatically turn on and can be used as daytime running lights.

Installation of fog lights: connection diagram and features

How to connect tumanki:

  1. The negative contact from the headlights is connected to the car body.
  2. The positive terminals are connected to each other and go into the relay at the 87th terminal.
  3. The positive contact from relay number 30 connects to the battery.
  4. The two remaining contacts are used for the power button and 12V when the ignition is turned on.

Parallel connection supplies full voltage to each headlamp, so the brightness of the lamps does not decrease, and the current consumption increases.

Serial connection

This installation method significantly reduces the current consumption and reduces the brightness of the lamps. The circuit is great for the constant use of fog lights as navigation lights.

How to connect fog lights:

  1. The minus contacts of the headlights are connected to each other with a single wire.
  2. The positive terminal of one headlamp is attached to the body, and the second is soldered into the relay.
  3. The key in the passenger compartment and the positive cable from the ignition are connected to 86 and 85 relay terminals.
  4. Contact 30 goes to the positive terminal of the battery.

Megatuning - installation of a projection with a car logo

You can turn on the automatic ignition by supplying power from the mains charging sensor. In this case, the headlights should shine when the power unit is started and go out when it stops.

Installation of foglights in the bumper

Installation of fog lamps will not take much time. For accuracy, you need to take measurements and mark the location of the headlight mounts.

Installation of fog lights: connection diagram and features

For installation, you need to follow the steps:

  1. Wash the bumper from dirt.
  2. Attach the fog lamp to the installation site and mark the frames.
  3. Remove the mounting frame from the headlight.
  4. Drill holes at the attachment point.
  5. Install the frame using self-tapping screws or bolts that come with the kit.
  6. Screw the headlight to the frame.
  7. Install the switch in the passenger compartment.
  8. Carry out the wiring using one of the proposed methods.
  9. Tuck the cables neatly into the corrugation and secure to the main harness with plastic ties.

All work with an electrician is performed with the terminals disconnected from the battery. After installing the headlights, it is required to adjust the light angle so as not to blind oncoming drivers.

To install standard parts in factory locations, you need to remove the plugs and screw the bolts into special drips. In some cases, cars have all the necessary wiring for a quick connection.

How to dismantle a fog lamp

To replace a burnt out lamp, it is required to remove the headlight and disconnect the contacts.

Installation of fog lights: connection diagram and features

Installation of fog lamps (instructions for installing PTF)

Installation of fog lights: connection diagram and features

Safe movement of the car in any road conditions depends on the equipment of the car. Automakers do not install foglights on all models. Heavy fog often forces drivers to stop, especially at night. The installation of fog lights (PTF) will help to solve this problem. .

The main purpose of fog lights is to accurately deliver the light in front of the vehicle. Precisely adjusted PTFs illuminate a path length of 10-15 m.

This is enough for safe movement in fog at low speed.

And since road conditions are not always bad for driving, the driver must be able to turn on and off additional lighting on his own.

It is necessary to adjust the position of the fog lamps during their installation. This procedure should be given maximum time, patience and attention.

Features of installing fog lights

Installation of fog lights: connection diagram and features

The work of installing fog lights in such a car will be greatly simplified.

Installing fog lights with your own hands

Installation of fog lights: connection diagram and features

Installation of fog lights: connection diagram and features

In the future, do not forget to regularly clean the foglights from dirt and timely change the burnt out bulbs.

Installation and connection of fog lights from A to Z

One of the natural phenomena that causes the greatest discomfort to a car enthusiast while driving is fog. In this case, the only salvation can be fog lights, which allow you to better navigate in bad weather. Below we will tell you how to install fog lights on any car with your own hands.

Installation of fog lights: connection diagram and features

Set of wires, switch and relay for PTF mounting

To correctly put the foglights in the bumper with your own hands, you must not only buy a universal set of mounting fasteners in advance, but also take into account all the installation rules. Of course, any PTFs must be mounted correctly, taking into account all the requirements and rules. As stated in the SDA, no more than two fog lights can be put into the bumper per vehicle.

Their installation is carried out in accordance with the requirements:

  1. PTFs must be placed at a distance of no more than 40 cm from the side of the vehicle, which is determined by the outer surface of the lantern.
  2. To do everything correctly, the devices must be installed at a distance of at least 25 cm from the ground, that is, along the bottom of the lantern.
  3. The light PTF lamps must be installed below the upper part of the light-transmitting opening of the dipped-beam lamps.
  4. As for the viewing angles, they should not be cluttered. Vertically, the viewing angle should be about 15 degrees, horizontally - around 45 degrees (video by Romanautoreview).

It will be wrong if PTFs are included together with the dimensions. Accordingly, when installing in the bumper and connecting the connectors, they must be placed in such a way that they are not connected to the dimensions.

It's no secret that all modern vehicles are equipped with a special connector for mounting PTF, so the installation of fog lights is carried out strictly in them.

And even if there are no lanterns themselves, then there must be appropriate plugs into which the mounting mounts and the lanterns themselves are installed.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1blkkgGJwZg

In the event that your car does not have plugs and seats where fog lights are installed, then you will have to make these places yourself.

If this is the case, then when installing a set of headlights in the bumper, you can and even need to be guided by the requirements for installation and connection, otherwise you may have problems when going through routine maintenance. Only by considering the requirements will you be able to ensure that the devices are used efficiently at full capacity.

As for the adjustment, it is carried out after installing the PTF in the bumper instead of the plugs. As you remember, during installation, you need to think about how to properly mount the lantern so that its angle of light flux is correct.

Connection methods

Installation of fog lights: connection diagram and features

Installation of the PTF shutdown button

So, if the installation of fog lights is carried out at home, then in order to do everything right, put the kit in the bumper instead of plugs and connect it to the wiring, you can use one of two connection options.

As we remember, PTFs in any case do not turn on from the side lights, this must be remembered before installing the kit in the bumper and connecting all the connectors. There may be several options for mounting devices.

One of the easiest in terms of installation and reliability is the connection to the vehicle wires, which have already been installed and are intended for foglights.

In this case, you can make everything easier. The factory wiring is already equipped with all the necessary components, in particular the wires and connectors that are required for connection. The wiring contains all the relays and fuses, as well as a switch with which you can control the devices.

In fact, you just have to dismantle the plugs from the bumper and install the PTF kit by connecting it to all connectors.

This option is not relevant for all vehicles, but only for cars equipped with plugs or cars where you need to change out of order foglights (video author - Andrey Kuvshinov).

When buying a PTF kit, you need to make sure that this model can be installed on your car. Not only the connectors must match, but also the installation parameters. In the event that the vehicle is not equipped with wiring for the installation of fog lights, you will need to carry it out on your own.

In order for the fog lamp connection diagram to be correct, additional wires should be purchased along with the kit, they must be copper and insulated. In addition, you also need to purchase a fog lamp switch, fuse and relay, sometimes these components come with a PTF.

Remember that the anti-fog optics should never be included together with the dimensions. The standard wiring, as well as the switch, are not rated for the level of current that these optics draw.

It should be noted that the electrical circuit must in any case be equipped with a fuse, this is very important. Only a fuse will save your vehicle from fire if a short circuit accidentally occurs in the circuit.

The fuse itself must be powerful enough - the power level is calculated in accordance with the power of the optics itself.

For example, if the optics are designed for 60 watts, then when buying a fuse, you must calculate its power in advance in accordance with the formula:

60 W * 2/12 V = 10 A

That is, the device itself should be selected taking into account a small margin. The best option would be to buy a 15 amp fuse.

Connection diagrams

Installation of fog lights: connection diagram and features

Fog optics connection diagram

Now let's move on to the diagrams, according to which a set of fog lights must be connected to all connectors. One of the simplest options is to connect from the battery; for this, an additional button for turning on the fog lights is installed in the circuit.

Each fog lamp is equipped with two contacts for power supply. One of these contacts on both components of the kit is connected by a cable in one circuit and connected to the vehicle body, that is, ground.

Mounting to ground must be carried out using a rigid clamp or fastener.

As you know, the car body is initially connected to the negative of the battery. Therefore, in order to prevent possible malfunctions in the future, the best option would be to connect the wire directly to the negative terminal of the battery.

If, in the future, rust begins to form on the body or on the fastening element, this will contribute to the loss of contact and, accordingly, the signal.

The second contacts must be connected to the positive of the battery, they are connected to each other, after which the cable is brought out to contact number 87 in accordance with the diagram.

After these actions, the remaining contacts of the relay are connected to the connectors:

  • number 30 - connected to the positive terminal of the battery through a fuse;
  • number 86 - to the negative terminal of the battery or to the car body, as mentioned above;
  • number 85 - to the positive terminal of the battery, a switch is additionally used for connection, as well as a fuse used in the wiring of contact number 30.

Installation of fog lights: connection diagram and features

Scheme for mounting PTF

As for the optics power button, it is mounted in the vehicle interior, where it is convenient for the driver, usually in the dashboard area.

The relay itself should be mounted on the fuse box, usually this device is equipped with relay connectors that can be used when connecting additional equipment.

If necessary, you can try to connect to a relay that is already installed in the unit.

You can use a more complex circuit for connecting to the positive output of the battery through the ignition switch. In other words, from the optics power button, the wiring is laid and connected not to the battery, but to any cable where there is a voltage that appears as a result of turning on the ignition.

Since the optics in this case will only turn on with the ignition on, in the future this will avoid a possible battery discharge if the driver forgets to turn off the foglights.

The schemes described above will make it possible to connect optics in accordance with the requirements of the traffic rules and the current legislation of the Russian Federation, for this, the fog light switch must be connected to the machine's external lighting switch.

How to connect fog lights through a relay and a button: diagram

In foggy weather, the efficiency of the headlights is noticeably reduced. In conditions of insufficient visibility, the driver endangers other road users and pedestrians.

Installing car fog lights will make it easier to mark the car on the road, thereby increasing driving safety. In the absence of these elements in the basic configuration, it is enough to connect them in the garage.

The main thing is to understand the correct sequence of actions.

Installation requirements for fog lamps

Installation rules are spelled out in the SDA GOST 8769-75. If the design of the car does not provide for ready-made places for installation, they can be taken out separately, or the bumper can be remade. The last option is somewhat complicated, because the specified revision leads to changes in the design of the vehicle, which is equivalent to a partial re-equipment.

The previously mentioned standard dictates the rules for installing PTF.

  1. The number of fog lights is no more than two pieces.
  2. There should be no more than 40 centimeters of distance between the side plane and the light source.
  3. The minimum installation height is 25 centimeters from the road surface.
  4. The fog light hole should be located lower than the upper point of the dipped beam opening.
  5. Fog lights are allowed to be switched on only together with bulbs of dimensions.
  6. The viewing angle is 15 degrees vertically and 45 degrees horizontally. The maximum deviation from these values is ten degrees.

Installation of fog lights: connection diagram and features

Note! In the absence of regular places where PTFs can be installed, they will have to be selected manually. After all, this procedure must be performed correctly, in accordance with the requirements of the current legislation.

One more point. After completing the installation, sometimes it may be necessary to adjust the headlights. This is necessary so that the angle at which the luminous flux falls on the road is correct.

How to connect fog lights

The easiest way is to connect fog lights if the car is equipped with standard wiring. In its absence, you will have to manually lay the conductive elements. There are two options - through a relay and through a button.

Through relay

To install the PTF through a relay, you will need the following tools:

  • terminal block;
  • nippers;
  • knife;
  • pliers.

In parallel, you need to take the corrugation, heat shrinkage, electrical tape and terminals. The connection sequence is as follows.

  1. Find a free space for installing the relay. Secure it where you can easily access it for repair or replacement.
  2. Allocate a location for the button.
  3. Measure the length of the power wires. It should be sufficient for loose laying without tension.
  4. Install a 10-amp fuse and from the 30th pin, pull the finished wire to the positive terminal of the battery.
  5. Remove the wire for the power button from the 85th contact.
  6. Connect the relay to ground using the 86th pin.
  7. Install foglights on the bumper.
  8. Connect the negative wire from the body and the positive wire from pin 87.
  9. Check the lighting is working.

How to degrease a car body

Through the button

The button should receive voltage from any 12-volt wire. As a rule, power is taken from the plus side of the side lights. Ignition system wiring may be suitable.

Connecting the headlights themselves is easy. Positive voltage is supplied through the red wire, while the black wire passes the mass screwed to the body.

Before connecting the wiring to the button, choose a convenient place for the latter on the torpedo, to which you will not have to stretch your hand too much.

Fog lamp installation diagrams

Connecting fog lights is possible in two ways - parallel and serial.

Installation of fog lights: connection diagram and featuresParallel connection method Installation of fog lights: connection diagram and featuresSerial connection method

Installation via relay

Try not to connect foglights in an autonomous way. In this case, they turn on independently, but each headlight is able to drop the battery to zero in a few days. This circuit uses an ignition wire leading to the + ACC or plus size mode.

The second option is using ignition. Power is supplied from the positive wire of the ignition switch. You will need a voltmeter to find it. Handicraft checking with a light bulb can damage the standard car electronics.

Installation via button

If the button is used, the positive wire does not have to be connected through a separate fuse on the battery. You won't need it here. It is enough to find any wire with voltage appearing when the driver turns on the ignition.

Important! This power scheme is convenient for forgetful owners who tend not to turn off the fog lights after stopping the engine. They will stop burning as soon as the driver pulls out the key from the ignition.

Errors when connecting foglights

When installing the PTF for the first time, it is easy to make a mistake. It is better to familiarize yourself with them in advance so as not to admit them by example.

The main problem is connecting the side light bulbs to the wiring. The switch, like the wires used in this system, are not rated for the current drawn by the equipment.

As a result, the wiring overheats, the protective insulation melts from the high temperature. Yes, the PTF will be activated when the side lights are started at the same time.

But the problem is that the equipment will not work for long.

The second problem is the discrepancy between the installation parameters specified in the traffic rules. Traffic police officers have the right to check the correct operation of the fog lights on the spot. If the parameters are not met, the driver will have to pay a fine.

The third problem is the wrong choice of place for the button installation. The switch should be within arm's reach. Otherwise, you will have to reach for her, which is fraught with getting into a traffic accident.

We hope our tips will help you connect and install your fog lights correctly!
